Montclair Takes Steps Toward Energy Efficiency

We live in an age where technology allows us to do right by the environment by reducing our emissions, energy consumption, and our overall effect on the planet in general.  As we want to leave a better world for future generations, it is our responsibility to support as many green initiatives as we can in our community.

During 2016 and 2017, the Township of Montclair took part in the PSEG Direct Install Program.  This program provides local governments with solutions to use less energy, lower emissions, and contribute to sustainability in our community.

All municipally owned buildings in Montclair underwent lighting audits to determine if each of them would be able to save money by upgrading to more energy efficient lighting.

Once it was determined that they would, fluorescent lighting fixtures throughout Montclair’s municipal buildings were upgraded to high efficiency LEDs.  These upgrades have reduced our electrical demands, thus reducing the township’s costs dramatically.  Over the next decade, the Township of Montclair stands to save potentially over half a million dollars in energy costs due to participation in the Direct Install Program.

Montclair should be proud of the leadership we have shown regarding environmental awareness, conservation and protection.  Through these actions and so much more, we remain committed to being at the forefront of environmental innovation and sustainability.  Energy efficiency, renewable energy and sustainability programs are the way to safeguard our planet’s future.  It is my hope that we will continue to participate in more programs like this.  If you’d like to learn more about the project that Montclair took part in, visit the Township of Montclair website.
